Preview:

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight sluggers Steve Garcia vs. David Onama will clash TONIGHT (Sat., Nov. 1, 2025) inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC Vegas 110.

Nevertheless, this is a great fight between excellent up-and-coming Featherweight contenders. Garcia has won six in a row since rejoining the 145-pound division, scoring five knockouts in the process. Onama, meanwhile, has won six of his seven Featherweight bouts, securing a pair of blistering knockouts and a “Fight of the Night” bonus in that span. Both men are athletic, violent, and eager to punch their ticket into the divisional Top 10.  Garcia is a wood chipper. “Mean Machine” really excels at working on the front foot, pressuring his opponents with a blend of strikes and takedowns. He attacks at all ranges, from blasting power kicks to shifting combinations to aggressive clinch striking. 14 of his 18 wins come via knockout, and Garcia hasn’t lost a Featherweight bout since June 2018.

Garcia is the sharper striker here, but I’m not sure he’s the more powerful one. Onama can absolutely crack, so Garcia has to keep his volume and aggression under control in the early goings of the fight. He doesn’t need to take huge chances early, not when he’s more likely to build momentum as the fight wears on. I’m not saying he should be passive, but there’s no need to jump into the fray needlessly at the first bell. Instead, Garcia should look to win the distance battle. He’s actually the slightly longer and taller striker, and he can take advantage of those traits with straight punches and power kicks. Garcia may be less explosive than Onama, but he’s better at building combinations and shifting into big swings. If he keeps an extra step between them for the first round or two, he’ll be able to gain a read on Onama’s speed a little more easily while still landing his own offense.

Onama is a physical force at 145 pounds. Nearly as tall and long as Garcia, but quite a bit more muscled, Onama has proven himself hard to stop both on the feet and the canvas. He’s not a perfect technician in any area — “Silent Assassin” has only been a professional since 2019 compared to Garcia’s 2013 — but he’s definitely a quick learner with plenty of talent. Onama has to knockout — or at least badly hurt — Garcia to win this fight. There’s a line of thinking that argues he can wrestle Garcia like he did to Giga Chikadze, but that’s an idea likely to backfire. Garcia is not a kickboxer transitioning to mixed martial arts (MMA) — he knows how to cage wreste and scramble well enough that Onama would more than likely fatigue himself trying to hold down “Mean Machine.”

This is likely to be a competitive fight. Both men have their advantages in the “Experience vs. Explosiveness” equation, which are both valuable traits in a fire fight. On the whole, however, I favor the more battle-tested man in Garcia. He’s putting together his offense at a really high-level right now, and he has the skills to punish Onama if the Ugandan standout tries to wrestle. More than anything else, Garcia and his style feel built for five rounds. If Onama can’t stop him early, Garcia’s success is likely to snowball as the fight wears on.
