UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs Kavanagh takes place live from Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Prelims start at 5pm ET/2pm PT, followed by the main card at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
Moreno is not the most consistent man on UFC’s roster, but he does have a very deep set of skills. He can scramble with the absolute best of them offensively or defensively, though he tends to keep fights on the feet more often than not. In the stand up, Moreno has the division’s best jab, punishing kicks and some tricky counter combinations. Kavanagh is a plus athlete first and foremost. It’s clear from the speed with which Kanavagh can change directions or burst forward that he’s built for power, a trait that comes through in his heavy punches and running double leg alike. From a more technical standpoint, Kavanagh is a tricky kicker who relies on good in-and-out movement to set up his hands. There is no easy way to defeat Moreno, who almost never gets finished and will scrap it out to the very end. That said, the focus should be on taking away Moreno’s best weapons, namely that jab. If Kavanagh can focus on using his kicks — like that crafty lead leg snap kick — to interrupt Moreno’s dipping jab and general head movement, it will go a long way in making him easier to hit.
Brandon Moreno is coming off a technical knockout loss to Tatsuro Taira at UFC 323 late last year, leaving him at 2-3 across his last five. It was the first time the former flyweight champion has been stopped by strikes in over 30 professional fights which means we don’t really have a precedent for his response. You can argue that Taira is one of the best flyweights in the world and losing to the 18-1 phenom is nothing to be ashamed of, just as you can argue that Moreno may be coming apart at the seams after so many brutal wars in his UFC career. On paper, this is a fight he should win, or at least control for all five rounds. I don’t want to go crazy over the short notice nature of this contest because Lone’er Kavanagh would have all the same disadvantages with a full camp.
“I still feel the motivation to do it, and my abilities are enough to be the champion again,” Moreno told. “Right now, the competition is on fire with our new champion, new contenders, younger fighters; everything looks super-nice right now for the flyweight division. But I still feel like I’m in the conversation, I still feel like I have the abilities to fight for the title again, and I have to prove it. [Lone’er is] young; he’s the new blood of the division. He’s gonna come super-motivated. He’s coming from a loss, so that puts something inside of your soul.
