From the outset, the Brazilian was in clear control, battering the lead leg of Barez and sticking him with the jab, dictating the terms of engagement on the feet throughout the first two rounds. These two entered in serious need of a victory and opted to take a “leave it all out there” approach, biting down on their mouthpieces and trading shots from the jump, each landing and getting tagged to start. But Cachoeira recognized that Nunes was dipping her head and capitalized, grabbing her by the back of the head and driving a right uppercut into her chin, knocking her out cold. The 36-year-old veteran has always flashed power and looked better than she has in some time here, exhibiting the toughness and tenacity that has made her a tough out across two weight classes. Cachoeira snapped a two-fight skid with the finish, giving her three stoppage wins in her last four victories.

Carli Judice opened the show with a blistering effort against Dana White’s Contender Series Season 8 breakout star Yuneisy Duben, putting the debutant away with a beautiful head kick in the opening round. Judice came out of the corner aggressive and sharp, connecting with a question mark kick almost immediately before settling in behind swift jabs and long left hands. After attacking with kicks to the body and clean shots, Judice went upstairs with her left leg, planting her shin across Duben’s face, sending her to the canvas. After a pair of competitive, split decision losses in her DWCS appearance in Season 7 and her promotional debut last year, the 26-year-old finally claimed her first victory at the UFC APEX, doing so in spectacular fashion.
