The 34th G1 Climax! It’s Night 15 , and it’s time to decide who will fill out the spots in the A Block Playoffs. Zack Sabre Jr. already clinched a spot in the playoff, and four other wrestlers (EVIL, Great O-Khan, Shingo Takagi, and Tetsuya Naito) are fighting for the remaining two spots. Time to find out! This was the only tournament match on the card that was totally meaningless, with both guys already being eliminated. With that being said, it was still an entertaining contest for the six minutes or so that it lasted. Callum Newman actually got the jump on Gabe Kidd at the start with a series of dives to the floor. Once they got back in the ring, it was a pretty even affair until Kidd put Newman away with two straight piledrivers. That was followed by Kidd attacking some of the young lions with a chair before giving Newman a DDT on that same chair. With Zack Sabre Jr. locking up the #1 seed, that meant the last three matches on this card would see four guys fighting for the other two spots in the A Block Playoffs. Shingo Takagi needed to win this bout, and then have either Naito or EVIL lose. While Jake Lee could’ve gotten to ten points with a win, things wouldn’t work out for him from a tiebreaker standpoint, so he was essentially playing spoiler. These two wound up having a very solid match that continued Jake Lee’s streak of quality matches in this tournament. There were a number of good back and forth action throughout this one, particularly in the second half. Shingo was able to counter the Face Break Shot attempt with a Death Valley Driver, and the superplex that followed led to the closing strike exchange, which ended with a short Pumping Bomber and Shingo cradling Lee tight for the pin. Lee responded a minute or so later with a post-match attack on Shingo. This wasn’t the first time that they had Lee pop right back up after a loss and complain to the referee or the ring announcer on the floor. The win put Shingo in a prime position to advance (depending on the results of either of the next two matches).
