FUNDORA VS. OCAMPO 10/8/22, La Torre Infernal will defend his interim WBC super welterweight title against Mexico’s Carlos Chema Ocampo at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. In the co-main event of the evening, Argentine monarch Fernando Pumita Martínez will meet Filipino Jerwin Ancajas in a rematch for the IBF super flyweight championship.
Fundora’s (9-0-0, 13 KOs) goal for this contest is to consolidate himself as a challenger against the undisputed 154-pound champion, Jermell Charlo , who in May beat Argentina ‘s Brian Castaño .
“The entire division must be on alert, ” Fundora said. “I am arriving. I’m definitely not going to overlook this current opponent, but I’ll be ready when I get a chance to fight for the title.”
In April, in his last fight, Sebastian faced fellow contender Erickson Lubin in a vicious nine-round battle . The two visited the canvas before the referee stopped the clash due to Fundora’s total dominance. The punishment he gave Lubin was brutal. He left him with a grotesquely swollen face, a broken nose and a dislocated shoulder.
“I never hesitated during my fight against Lubin,” he said. “I wouldn’t be here right now if I doubted myself. I stayed calm and used my intelligence to kneel during that fight. They had dealt me a good blow and I thought, ‘let’s breathe a little bit’ instead of being hit like that again”.
In this new challenge, he will face Ocampo (34-1-0, 22 KOs), who has tied 12 wins in a row after suffering the only loss of his career so far against the unified welterweight champion Errol Spence in 2018.
“He is an elite fighter. He is on a 12 win streak. Lubin was six and was highly praised. This guy is doubly better”, he spoke him “He is a talented Mexican boxer, I imagine he is strong. We are going to see what he brings, because we already have our plan”.
